CATCH Can with We Can! TM
We Can! National Webcast for County and City Health Departments
On Thursday, February 21, We Can! and the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) will host a Webcast discussing ways that County and City health officials can and are using the NIH We Can! program. CATCH Kids Club is one of three We Can! youth curricula featured in We Can! More than 550 U.S. community organizations around the country have committed to using We Can! materials.
The Webcast-featuring Acting U.S. Surgeon General RADM Steven K. Galson, M.D., and We Can! leaders from the Kentucky Department for Public Health; Armstrong County , Pennsylvania ; and the Boston Public Health Commission-will present We Can! successes, challenges, lessons learned, and plans for the future in each of these health departments.
Webcast Highlights:
Dr. Galson will present information about the importance of promoting healthy weight in children and highlight the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' new Childhood Overweight and Obesity Prevention Initiative.
Anita Courtney, State of Kentucky We Can! coordinator, will discuss her We Can! outreach efforts across the 11 different childhood overweight prevention regions in Kentucky .
Dr. Kiran Bhat, We Can! HEALTHY Armstrong coordinator, will provide an overview of the ways that Armstrong County, PA, is working across county departments, the local hospital and hospital foundation, and county schools to coordinate We Can! programming.
Kathy Cunningham, project director, We Can! Boston Public Health Commission, will provide an overview of her health department outreach to inner city Boston groups over the past two years.
The presenters will be joined by Karen Donato from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, Coordinator of the NHLBI Obesity Education Initiative and Project Officer for We Can! Ms. Donato will present an overview of the We Can! program, together with resources that county and city health departments can use to help children and families maintain a healthy weight.
